As many of you know the NCM is the planning stages of
building a Motorsports Park. During this build phase individuals, clubs,
businesses etc have the option to purchase what you might call a share of this
park by buying parcels of land in ¼, ½ and 1 acre sizes.
The ZR-1 Net Registry club has already purchase a ¼ acre
piece about 1 ½ - 2 years ago.
Last year the Grand Sport Registry club threw out a
challenge to their members to raise enough funds to purchase 1 acre and this
year at the ZR-1 Gathering they succeeded in doing so.
So I would like to challenge the ZR-1 Net Registry members
to also raise enough funds to purchase 1 acre by next year’s Gathering at the
NCM. However I would like to step up that challenge. The NCM said we could turn
in the $3,750 we gave them for the ¼ acre and apply it towards the 1 acre cost
of $15,000 however that would just makes us equal with everyone else. We are not
like everyone else, the ZR-1 owners and the ZR-1 Net Registry is unique, we
don’t follow we lead.
Think about it for a sec, when the ZR-1 came out in 1990 it
wasn’t just another Corvette, it was the icon of which all other sports cars in
the world had to be compared against. It was the fastest production corvette
ever built, one of the fastest production cars in the world and even today not
many cars can exceed 180mph.
It was the most unique corvette ever built when you think
about the fact that the LT5 was engineered by Lotus, built by Mercury Marine and
assembled by GM. No other corvette can say this or ever will. The day the first
ZR-1 rolled off the assembly line it became a part of history, not to mention
later in life beating the world record run.
You are also members of a very unique club; your club, the
ZR-1 Net Registry like the ZR-1 led the way in how clubs are model today. We
were the first club to use and combine technology. What I mean by this clubs of
the past commutated thru monthly meetings, telephone and newsletters. Later some
started using email and listservers. Then forums and web sites but not one club
that I know of had combined all these technologies under one roof.
The ZR-1 Net Registry was the first to make use of all the
different commutation technologies; we use email, phone, listserver, websites,
forums, electronic stores, hardcopy newsletter, electronic newsletter,
conference calls, gatherings, and more. We were one of the first International
clubs to act like a local club with bylaws, board members and we are NON-PROFIT.
We were one of the first clubs to start the concept of “Gatherings” each year
at the NCM. What other club had come to the aid of a fellow member who because
of a serious accident and had no insurance thru the generosity of its members
raised thousands of dollars for him and his family. Name one other club that
comes close to this model.
As such I would never be happy knowing that our “home” the
National Corvette Museum that we only contributed to ¼ acre to our new
Motorsports Park. So not only do I want to see us purchase an acre but I want
to also keep the ¼ acre we already have. Actually I would love to see us
purchase 2 acres!
We have ~600 members which means a donation of only $25 a
member would buys us that acre. So how about it, are we followers or are we
leaders?
The way we can kick this off for now is all I want from you
today is a pledge of how much you are willing to give towards the acre of land.
Later when it looks like we are close to achieving our goal I will ask you to
start sending in your money. This can be done in several ways, check, paypal,
and credit card. We can set up payment thru the ZR-1 Net Registry store to make
it very easy.
Also at this time I’m not asking the ZR-1 Net Registry club
itself to donate to the cause since they already have with the ¼ acre. However
as a club this is an option we can look at and vote on later with the
membership.
Remember this Motorsports Park is for us and our kids;
think about future events at the NCM and having this park available to us and
the pride knowing that you own a piece of it.
To understand more of what this park is about and what it
offers please visit:

In the meantime please send your pledges to:
parkpledge@zr1.net
I will continually update everyone on how the pledges are
going. You can donate any amount but anyone who donates $25 or more will get a
decal they can put on their ZR-1 that says “I own a piece of the Park”.
Thanks!
